Ethical Issues

Ethical issues are extremely important and are often infringed upon by HIV/AIDS research. HIV/AIDS vaccine trials have been heavily criticized in the past because they are usually initiated on resoure-poor countries. This process has infringed upon morals because the vaccines are being tested on humans for the first time and their effects are unknown. Likewise, the people from these poverty stricken countries are treated as if they were lab guinea pigs under experiments. (#48) Another ethical issue arises from the Crispr/Cas9 editing tool which is currently being regarded as the future solution to HIV. Even though this revelation has the potential to eliminate HIv from humans, it can also be used to give humans enhanced features. These 'designer babies' can be modified to be given traits such as a different eye color or even physical characteristics such as athleticism. This process would be a whole new ethicaldilemma in that it is basiically a manifacturing of humans and can cause multiple problems with religion and long standing cultures. As a result, in addition to developing an improving HIV/AIDS research, we must also concentrate on ethical issues and not infringe upon morals. (#49)
